United Way
Far West Fibers has been a long time supporter of United Way of the Columbia-Willamette. Each Fall we run a company fundraising campaign that involves everyone and is both rewarding and FUN. From a “kiss the pig” contest to bingo, from a pie in the face contest to cakewalks and bake sales, anything to raise money for a worthy cause. Over the years, we have been honored with the “Cascade” award as well as the “Pacesetter” award for outstanding community fundraising efforts. In 2007, we joined a select group of companies as “Cornerstone Partners” to help cover the overhead costs of United Way so that 100% of further donations from the campaign could go directly to the community needs.
We are also very proud to be the founders of the Far West Fibers Classic Golf Tournament to benefit the United Way. Over the past 12 years we have been able to raise close to three quarters of a million dollars.
United Way takes the guesswork out of giving. They bring the right people, resources, and ideas together to help people who are most vulnerable, face multiple challenges, and have few options.
United Way funds programs in the four-county Portland/Vancouver region that are focused on three core areas:
Health and Wellness
- Health clinics for uninsured patients
- Mental health and substance abuse treatment
- Family violence prevention
Tools for Independence
- Services to prevent elder abuse
- Job training, employment services
- Safe, affordable housing and support services for homeless children and families
In addition to our annual fundraising campaign and Classic Golf Tournament our President, Keith Ristau, is a sitting member of the Board of Directors for the United Way of the Columbia-Willamette and our Project Manager Rick Paul is an active participant in the United Way Campaign Cabinet.
